Hello, nice to meet you.

I’m Michiel Baumgarten, illustrator, based in Groningen, the Netherlands.

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would draw everything I could think of, from cars and monsters to superheroes, Michael Jackson, the Ghostbusters, flying DeLoreans and the people around me. Back then I already knew I wanted to become a ‘real’ illustrator, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing since 2007.

Over the years I’ve grown into an illustrator with a strong personal style and a love for original, out of the box ideas. I don’t just create illustrations, I think in concepts and look for ways to make each project stand out and feel unique.

I work on a wide range of commissioned projects, but I also spend time on personal work. That’s where I experiment, explore new directions and keep developing my style. It also helps me stay sharp and, hopefully, at least a little bit fun to work with.

In recent years I’ve also specialised in illustration for animation, bringing my work into motion.
